One more thing to remember, if you’re using Firefox set network.proxy.socks_remote_dns = true in the about:config. This way, DNS requests will also be tunneled through SSH. Domain names will be looked up via the remote host’s DNS server rather than your local host’s. This is useful in case someone filters or maliciously misroutes DNS queries on the local network.

I’ve found copSSH an easy to install and maintain packaging of Cygwin and OpenSSH.
