I’ve used UltraEdit for years at work, but never wanted to pay $50 for a Notepad replacement at home. I recently found the CrimsonEditor, http://www.crimsoneditor.com/, which has many of the same features I love so much about UltraEdit and is freeware. A portable version is also available at http://rapidshare.com/files/20576170/PortableCrimsonEditor3.70.rar.
Some of the best features include column editing, syntax highlighting and macros.
